Glossary
What the product terms mean.
These are descriptions of Legicus features, not legal definitions or terms of a professional engagement.
- Matter
- An access-controlled workspace for related documents, research references, human-authored observations, decisions and history. A Matter is not itself proof of representation.
- Jurisdiction
- The country or legal system relevant to a question or source. Selecting it does not determine which law governs your situation.
- Provider / original source
- An external service that supplies permitted search metadata. The original source is the external provider record you open to check the actual decision; Legicus's summary is not a substitute.
- Result metadata
- Limited fields such as case name, citation, court, date and link. Case-search results do not reproduce or store full judgments in Legicus.
- Coverage gap
- A source lacks a verified permitted machine-search operation or required rights for this integration. It does not mean the jurisdiction has no case law.
- Unverified reference
- A case link selected and saved by a user. Saving it does not establish that the case exists, applies or remains good law.
- Human review
- An authorized person's recorded assessment of a reference or output, including a decision and rationale. Review is distinct from generating or saving AI content.
- Clause DNA
- A source-bound tool for examining contract clauses and surfacing potential attributes or issues. Its output is a suggestion until a person checks the clause and approves an authored finding.
- Dispute prevention
- Suggestions about potential areas of disagreement, not a prediction or guaranteed outcome. A responsible professional must evaluate them against the evidence.
- Legal Memory
- Matter-linked records and relationships retained under access controls; unreviewed AI results must not silently become human-authored conclusions.
- LexDraft
- A drafting workflow dependent on an enabled, authorized processing provider and reviewed inputs. A request or pending handoff does not mean an output is complete or approved.
- Audit history
- A record of supported actions and reviews. It assists accountability; it does not by itself prove the underlying legal conclusion correct.
